Carnaval in Guatemala!

Today the children of the Mayan Families pre-school celebrated Carnavale.
They paraded up the main street with the Bomberos ( First Responders) truck in front of them, the siren wailing.

The children were very proud of themselves with their very colorful and creative costumes. You may recognize some of the costumes you have sent down to us! Some of the parents made great costumes with a lot of imagination and very little money.
After the parade, they came back to the pre-school for a dance competition, prizes were given and then lots of delicious food was brought out for sale by the mothers. There were tostados, churizos, jello in little bags, drinks and atol made from masa.

The children also got cascarones which is egg shells that have been filled with confetti. These are then broken over each others heads! It is a lot of fun and the mothers had as much fun as the children. I am still picking confetti out of my hair!!
