Food shortage in Guatemala.

There have been various reports in the newspapers in the past few days about the food shortage and possible famine facing Guatemala.

We have seen a sharp increase in the amount of people coming to us who are in need of food.

Unfortunately, we don't have a food bank or a fund to be able to provide emergency food ...we rely on donations to help families in need.

This family has seven children and they are all malnourished. The father works in the river sifting sand which is then sold for construction. He earns approx. $25 US per week.
He only gets paid when the sand gets sold. Some days he doesn't sell anything.
After paying the rent for the room that they live in, the mother has only about $12 US per week to be able to feed this family. It is not enough to keep them eating every day.

We have three of these children in our Mayan Families Pre-school in Panajachel. They are eating two meals a day there and are really happy to be having regular meals five days a week.

We are fortunate that this family was recently sponsored and the sponsors sent them a wonderful gift of food!

We have many families like this one right now that does not have enough to eat. If you would like to help a family, the smallest amount , even $5 would enable them to have eggs for several meals.
