Rosa and her dogs.
Rosa, a long time volunteer with Mayan Families , is an indigenous woman who loves dogs.
She has 7 dogs of her own and she feeds at least another 7 street dogs daily.
This is the feeding station where she gives food to these poor dogs every day. These dogs are old before their years, they have lived a very hard life on the streets. Several of these old dogs have eye infections.
Yesterday when we accompanied Rosa , it was lovely to see how these dogs all responded to her. They saw her coming and they all came running as best they could!
Rosa's 84yr old mother says she worries about Rosa going out at night to feed the dogs but Rosa says she cannot go to bed and sleep knowing that these dogs have not eaten all day.
Rosa works washing clothes by hand and making beaded jewelry. She earns about $4 US per day and spends at least $2 US a day on her dogs.
Mayan Families helps Rosa by giving her donations of dried dog food. Rosa finds dogs that are in need of spaying and neutering and brings them to the clinics. She also talks to her neighbors and other dog owners and tries to convince them to bring their dogs to be spayed and neutered.
We are so grateful to have her help.
