Elderly feeding program in Panajachel, Guatemala.
Juliana comes to Panajachel 3 times a week to try and sell weavings on the street. She is a widow.
She had 10 children, 9 died.
She supports herself from her meager sales on the street.
Now with the economic downturn and lack of tourism, she often goes home poorer than she comes, she has to pay her bus fare.
She often has nothing to eat before she leaves to come to Panajachel, and if she doesn't sell anything, then she doesn't eat lunch.
We have now put her in our Elderly Feeding Program and she is so happy to have lunch three times a week when she is in Panajachel.
This is Berta, a Mayan Families staff member who usually delivers the lunches to the elderly. She believes that the food has to be served with affection and we agree with her.
