Traditional clothing.

These two students were so happy to receive the gift of new traditional clothing.
It is custom to have new clothes to celebrate Christmas and New Year but for most of our sponsored students it is an impossibility.

Giving a gift of traditional clothing, not only keeps the Mayan culture alive but it also provides work for cottage industries. All the traditional clothing is made in small cottage industries, often guipils ( blouses) are woven by women working at home, a few hours a day between all their domestic chores.

Traditional clothing is initally an expensive purchase, it is $95US for traditional clothing for a girl but it can least many years and then still be handed down to a younger sibling.
