Two month old Jose in critical condition

Two month old Jose in critical condition

Little Jose David is just two months and 19 days old. He was born with part of his intestine on the outside surface of his belly, and a large growth in his lower abdomen.  He is very small, even for a 2 month old baby, and it does not take a doctor to see that Jose is very sick. When he was born, hospital staff told his mother, Juana, that there was nothing they could do for him.  Unwilling to give up, she took him to another public hospital, but again she was turned away, and told that there was nothing to be done for her son.  Juana came to the Mayan Families office today, hoping that we can help her save her son's life.

When we saw the condition Jose was in we, realized that we had no choice but to send him immediately to our most trusted doctor, though we had no donation to cover the cost. The doctor confirmed that little Jose is in a terrible way--he urgently needs an operation tomorrow. However, the operation will cost $855 because two specialists are on their way from the capital city, to ensure this baby gets the best care possible. There will likely be medications to follow up, and we will need help to get Jose the treatment he needs.

The family's problems have been compounded by the fact that Jose's father, Nasario, is battling throat cancer, and has been unable to work for the last two months - the very length of time Jose has been around. Their debt for his medical treatment, including chemotherapy and medication, is already nearly $1000.  Nasario had been the sole breadwinner for Juana and their four children, and his illness has been devastating both emotionally and financially.

They are very worried and scared about what might happen, both with Jose, Nasario, and the rest of the family.  With your help, we can support them through this terrible time.

$855 is an impossible amount for Juana and Nasario, but there is no other option for Jose--please help them get their son the surgery that could save his life. To donate any amount, big or small, go to theDonate Now page, scroll down to the other box, and enter FA114.
Thank you so much!
