Hello everyone,
I saw Laura (#1444) today, all smiles. It's one of the first times I've seen her not in pain and holding her head to one side where her weak eye is. She is actually not going to school this year (though she is well beyond the age when she should have started), but she needs sponsorship to help support our feeding program this year. And we can most likely convince her family to put her in school in 2011 if we get a sponsor.
Laura is so so sweet. She was on her second helping of food, and another kid came in late. Laura tried to sneakily give her plate to him, not realizing we still had food left to give him. It was such a beautiful moment. She was happy enough to get her plate back, and licked it clean.
I can't begin to tell you how significant the feeding program is for the people of San Antonio. The kids are so so hungry and so so grateful. They do not let any stray noodle or piece of tortilla go to waste.
This was one of the most satisfying days at the job, just watching these kids eat and eat and eat, slowly, steadily, happily, eating.
Best wishes,Ely
Ely PLEASE email me vbayouangel at aol dot com! It's Vanessa!! I want to make sure she gets help and I know someone that would be interested!! Thanks
