Baby Amarillis funeral and Merrills blog.

This post is copied from Merrill's blog http://www.john-oursonshine.blogspot.com/ Please visit her blog to see more photos.
She has been kind enough to share many of the wonderful photos she has taken on her visit here in Guatemala.

Baby Amarillis passed away yesterday afternoon. Sharon invited me to go with her to visit the family and to pay our respects this morning. This is the family's home - they live in San Jorge. This is the second family in as many weeks that has buried a child. The family's live within a stone's throw of each other.

Baby Amarillis' coffin was in the family home in one of the rooms. We sat on a wood board facing the memorial for over an hour. The baby died around 3 p.m. Friday. It is customary for the family to stay awake all night sitting by the coffin. The baby's mother -her grief was definitely felt. She sobbed many, many times while we visited. It is customary for guests to offer the family sugar, coffee, money, food or flowers - I gave this grieving mother Q100.
We were offered sweet rolls, tea, soup, chicken and tamales
Sweet baby Amarillis
