Don Seferino Cholotio
Sometimes when the hospital in Solola has a patient that needs help and have nowhere to turn, they call us. Fortunately, they don't do it a lot because they know that we also have very little funds.
The hospital called us last week about this poor man. Seferino is 50yrs old. He lives in San Juan la Laguna. Seferino was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago, he has convulsions . He has very strong fevers. He arrived in the hospital 6 days ago.
Before he became ill he worked as a day laborer and earned $40 US per week. He paid $27 US per month for his rent.
His wife comes to visit him as often as she can but because she lives across the lake, she has to pay boat fare and then bus fare to the hospital and they do not have the money.
Seferino was unable to speak much due to the high fever but the social worker said that he needs to take xrays and examinations that can only be done in the city. The doctor was urging for him to be sent in immediately but the family does not have the money. He has to have three examinations at a cost of $72 each. The hospital will take him in ambulance so there is no cost of transportation. The costs of the examination are actually over $100 but the hospital has reduced the cost because of the urgency of his treatment and because the family is very poor.
Any donation would be very gratefully received to help Seferino.
