Canela, one of the three puppies that has been dumped at our door in the past few weeks found her new family today!
Canela and her sister were tied up at our door and we found them , terrified and starving.
We have since spayed both of them , given them parasite medicine and started on their vaccinations.
Last week, Melissa, the vet. student from North Carolina who has been volunteering with us for nearly 6 weeks put up fliers, accompanied by my daughter, Zoe, Ashton, Merrill's daughter who is also volunteering with us , between them they managed to put out fliers everywhere.
Yesterday we had a response from a very nice Guatemalan family who have three children. The children love puppies and the parents wanted to get a dog to keep them company.
Canela is a loving, playful and thanks to the supporters of Mayan Families, a healthy puppy.
The mother told me that this past week she had seen a woman throw boiling hot water at a dog to make it leave her yard. She said the dog screamed and screamed and that she could see that the front legs lost their fur and blistered up. I feel so sorry for this poor dog and hope that through our humane education program we will be able to do something to stop this kind of behaviour.
We feel very happy that Canela has gone to such a good home and wish that all the unwanted puppies on the street could be so fortunate.
Yesterday, we went to the waterpark on the coast....travelling through the towns we saw many dogs suffering. One was completely without fur, another had its front paw cut open , yet another obviously had an allergy and had scratched most of his fur off and his skin was bright red. We saw many starving dogs and had to look away from so many little puppies that were wandering on the highway .
Please consider sponsoring a dog or cat to be spayed or neutered. $20 US will help stop so much future suffering.
