Lubia.

Many of you may remember, Lubia, who more than two years ago we found living in a half built house, she was escaping an abusive husband. She was 8 months pregnant and she had three little girls. They were all sleeping on a cement floor on the second floor of an unfinsished building , no electricity, no bathroom, no where to cook.

Thanks to all of you who helped her, we were able to get her medical treatment. She was very fortunate because without this treatment she would have lost her baby. She needed a cesarian. Once again, thanks to you, we were able to provide her a house to live in, we arranged for her mother to come and live with her and take care of her and the girls.

Lubia wanted to start a little cafe ,thanks to you, we were able to give her this opportunity. Unfortunately, even though she tried it was too hard for her to manage.

Since then , her mother has moved into an apartment of her own. Lubia is now living alone and raising the four children. Lubia has a wonderful speaking and singing voice and she was able to get work on the local radio station. She really enjoyed doing that and things were going well for her. She was struggling to make ends meet but she was able to do so. Her three children were sponsored to go to school and she was working hard at getting ahead. Unfortunately, Lubia lost her job. The radio station was forced to close due to license problems. Since two months she has not had any work, she is now behind in her rent. She came to Mayan Families two weeks ago, the landlord was threatening to evict her,the children had nothing to eat and Lubia was feeling very ill. She arranged for her medical care and she is now receiving the medication that she needs but she is still in a very precarious situation. She does not have enough food for the children. We were fortunate to receive a donation this week to enable her to pay one months back rent but Lubia is facing an uphill battle to pay the rent, provide food for her children, recover from her illness and try to find a job at this time when tourism is down and there are not many jobs around.
