Dona Cayetana who is in her late 70's and has two disabled daughters, one who is blind and the other who is mentally disabled, was thrilled to receive this wonderful gift of food.
Cayetana spends her days at the waterfall, which is a tourist spot, she begs for money. Then in the afternoon she searches for firewood to carry home.
She is the main caregiver for her two daughters.
She has very bad arthritis in her knees and finds it hard to walk but everyday she walks a long way up the mountain to get to the waterfall. Coming home around dusk carrying all the firewood she has collected.
Cayetana and her daughters lost their home in Hurricane Stan and were living in dismal conditons when we met them. Mayan Families built a house for them , gave them an onil stove and a water filter. They have also received beds . Their main problem now is having enough to eat.

Sharon - is it possible to sponsor this women and her two daughters? What would it cost per month to provide adequate food for them?
ReplyDeleteHi Marisa, it would be very possible to sponsor Dona Cayetana and she would be very grateful.
ReplyDeleteWe are also starting an Elderly Feeding Program in San Jorge and we will be providing meals every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, there will also be a take home meal for the consecutive days. Dona Cayetana and her daughters will be able to participate in this and we neeed sponsorship for them if you would be interested in doing that. Sponsorship is $20 US per week per person.
