Funeral of baby Amarillis.

Thursday evening, Julio and Gloria took the family to purchase the coffin, candles , flowers and food that they would need for the guests.
The family held a vigil all night in front of the coffin. Candles burning, family praying and crying.

The father and mother returning home with the necessary items for the funeral.

The scene outside their tiny home when they returned. The women had already begun cooking for a long night of sitting beside the coffin and receiving visitors.
They have very little space and they had to move a bed out of the room so that they could have a room for the coffin, candles, flowers and chairs.
In their distress, they didn't realize that they had put the mattress on the edge of the patio and overnight it rained. The next morning the mattress was very wet.

Lighting the candles, a small plate is usually placed in front of or on top of the coffin.
This plate is to receive offerings from visitors to help offset the cost of the funeral and the cost of the food .
When we were there they had received probably about $3US . Merrill, who came with us, gave them approx. $12 US and she has a photo she took of little Amarillis before she passed away. She is going to frame it and give it to the family. This is probably the only photo that they will have of their daughter.

We asked permission to take these photos and the family readily agreed. We tried to be very discreet and not offend anyone. The people that we help know that if we don't have photos ...it makes it much harder to be able to get help for them.
