Tragedy in Guatemala

This post is from Zoe.

Today we received tragic news from our social worker from the hospital in Solola. A woman named Dona Maria Lopez Diaz badly injured her shoulder in a big mudslide in San Antonio. The doctors say she needs an operation immediately otherwise she could lose the use of her arm. Our case worker visited her and found out that she also lost her home and her 3 daughters: Paulina 12, Olga 9, and Flora 7. They were buried under the mudslide yesterday. Dona Maria has two surviving children: Sandra 5 and Santos 1 ½ Her husband Lorenzo is also in the hospital with injuries. In the next bed is her mother-in-law Antonia who is 70. She lost her husband Fransico and her son Ramos. They unfortunately weren’t able to attend the funerals. Thanks to your generous donations we were able to obtain the funds necessary for Dona Maria’s operation!

Today we also delivered food to Pixabaj and Maria Carmen. Two small villages where about 80 families lost homes.

Thank you all for your continued support!
